Sunday School

Sunday school plays an important role in the spiritual formation of our congregation. We have classes for the youngest of our children, classes for people attempting to learn the basics of their faith, classes for people "on down the road" of their faith journey, and classes for people interested in discussing topical issues.

Sunday school occurs every Sunday from 9:15 am to 10:15 am in various classrooms. Our current line-up of classes includes:

Crossroad’s Classmeeting in the chapel, this class alternates between The Present Word material and books regarding various topics of Christianity.  In recent months, the class has discussed the book The Last Week – a careful examination of the week leading up to Jesus’ death and resurrection as told in the Gospel of Mark. You can contact David Searles if you are interested in this class as he is guiding discussion. Other teachers and moderators of the Crossroad’s Class include Helen Sears and Marisue Coy.

The Upper Room (Seeker’s Class) - meeting in the adult Sunday school room (western end of the second floor), this class follows another Presbyterian curriculum (We Believe; www.pcusa.org/webelieve), which is intended to help people understand God’s Word and apply it to their lives. The class is led by Keith Moore with Marilyn Van Winkle serving as a sub.

The Men’s Bible Study – meeting in the Men's Bible Study room (lower southeastern end), this class uses a Presbyterian curriculum (The Present Word; http://www.pcusa.org/presentword/) as a guide for its time together. Class leaders include Ray Kramer, Tom Payne, Rick Park and Gus Paris.

A Book, A Bible and The Body - meeting in the parlor, this class is intended to engage us - the Body of Christ - by discussing a contemporary book that addresses some aspect of Scripture.  Frequently, the class also engages in conversations regading Christian faith and culture.  The class is led by Adam Lister.

Sunday School for Pre-school to 5th Grade - our younger participate in Rotation/Station Based Sunday, which utilizes multiple stations to immerse children into the Word of God.  They meet at 9 am in the choir room for "God's Children Sing" with Cynthia Grassman - our music director.  At 9:30, our children and adult volunteers gather in the fellowship hall for an introductory skit and songs to set the theme for the day.  And from 9:45-10:15, the children break into four different "flocks" (by age) to experience God's Word through art, cooking, games, science and storytelling stations.

The four "flocks for Rotational Sunday school include:  preschool, kindergarten/1st grade, 2nd/3rd grade, 4th/5th grade

If you have any questions or would like to know more about this opportunity, please contact Associate Pastor, Wes Kendall.

Jr. High & High School – meeting in the "Todd" room on Sunday mornings, we also have Sunday school opportunities for our youth. Currently, the classes are using Seasons of the Spirit – a curriculum designed to follow the same text used during Sunday worship. Through prayer, study, discussion, media, crafts and art, this curriculum is meant to present God’s Word clearly to each age group. Traditionally, the classes are taught be volunteers who rotate every month or every quarter.

  • Teachers for the Jr. High Class (6th-8th) include John Lashbrook, Bill Duncan, Bill Hughes and Adam Quine.
  • Teachers for the Sr. High Class (9th-12th) include Merritt Thomas, Frances Malony, Valerie Holcomb, and Adam Quine.
