While we are not a “preschool”, we endeavor to follow developmental guidelines and activities in each of our classrooms.
Obviously, in the baby and transition rooms, there is a lot of floor play, singing and hands on activity, as well as outside time.
Our toddler room is slightly structured, with a circle time in which a puppet comes in with our director to talk about the topic of the week. In this room we also have music time, a craft time in which we develop fine motor skills and creativity, and outside time for gross motor development.
Our pre-K room has still more structure, with a beginning circle time, free play and craft time, story time, music time and an outside time. While we do not sit down and learn our numbers, letters or colors specifically, we do “study” about different topics every week, and almost every day we use math, language, pre-reading and social skills in both our free play and our structured times. We also have an outside time every day that the weather permits.
