Amy Kand, Children's Day Out Director

In August 2006, Amy joined the Children’s Day Out staff in the pre-kindergarten room, then served as interim director for one year, and became director in March 2009.  Before coming to CDO, she held positions in human resources, heath care admissions and marketing, and childcare.

Amy is a 1997 graduate of Western Kentucky University holding a Bachelor of General Studies with an emphasis in Social and Behavioral Sciences.  The emphasis includes Family Life Education, Family Relations, and Psychology.  She also enjoyed traveling to Switzerland and France during her college years.

Amy is married to Shawn Kand, whom she met in Greer, South Carolina.  After completing their undergraduate education at Western Kentucky University, they were married in 1999 at Furman University, Greenville, SC.  The Kand’s moved to Owensboro, KY in the year 2000 after Shawn accepted a job conducting agricultural research and development.  He continues to work in agriculture specializing in crop advising and sales.

Amy was born in Columbus, Ohio and spent her formative years in Greer, South Carolina.  Amy and Shawn have one daughter who is in kindergarten.  As a family, they enjoy bike riding, hiking, camping, soccer, walks, traveling, reading, and visiting family.  They share their home with a calico cat named Maggie and several swimming fish friends.

Amy says, “I enjoy working with an awesome staff that provides a safe, fun, and educational environment for children.   I love working in a place where I can work and play, color, cut, glue, read stories, and learn a thing or two from God’s most precious gift; children!  I feel very blessed to work for Children’s Day Out at First Presbyterian Church.”
